FES is proud to have been involved in the major refurbishment works carried out at Waverley Station in Edinburgh, working in partnership with Balfour Beatty and Network Rail.

Works started in 2010, with the roof glazing of the station being entirely replaced with new strengthened clear glass panels replacing the old 34,000 m2 of cloudy wired glass. As part of a £130 million upgrade, this increased the amount of natural light in the station thus reducing the requirement for costly lighting and lowering energy consumption.

The project also included the refurbishment of the station concourse and main building exterior, with upgrades to the Princes Street and Market Street entrances providing escalator and lift access; creating an environment that meets the needs of passengers in the 21st century while preserving Waverley’s rich heritage

FES were responsible for:

  • Containment systems
  • LV distribution & associated equipment
  • General power
  • Lighting (internal, external & emergency)
  • Lighting controls
  • New gate access control
  • Audio entry system
  • Upgrade of CCTV equipment
