BBC Pacific Quay is situated just outside Glasgow on the River Clyde, opposite the SECC and next to the Glasgow Science Centre.
The new building is a dynamic broadcasting centre and a benchmark in terms of state-of-the-art technology and production methods, across TV, radio and online.
All BBC Scotland’s national broadcast output comes from here, including the hugely popular Reporting Scotland and Sportscene. Pacific Quay reception is open to the public and from interactive displays to viewing pods there is plenty to see and do.
FES was heavily involved in the concept design stages of the project prior to on site installation. The FES design team included BICSI RCDD designers, infrastructure project managers and 3D autoCAD modelling engineers. The design team produced fully co-ordinated 3D service layout drawings that detailed the precise location of all underfloor and above ceiling containment systems. This allowed a virtual walkthrough of the entire site to avoid any service clashes and to plan and agree cable routes
The challenge from the initial design team workshops was to seamlessly integrate the IT and Broadcast Infrastructure to allow a single media platform for these technologies where possible. FES provided Systimax passive structured cabling to 12,500 outlets totalling 1.2million meters Category 6 cabling to achieve this goal.
Resilient fibre backbone was provided using Systimax TeraSpeed single mode fibre from the Central Technical Area (CTA) to the remote IDR rooms. The singlemode fibre not only connects the CTA with each IDR but also serves as a point to point connection throughout the building for fixed or portable broadcast specific hardware.
