With the importance of BIM to the construction sector and through recognition of the opportunities this presents to the industry, FES have appointed a dedicated team, accredited as BRE Approved Practitioners (AP) and Project Information Managers (PIM), to lead this across our business. The team are challenged on both strategic and operational fronts to achieve first class BIM delivery. Supported by a diverse and skilled team of professionals this leaves FES ideally placed to work as part of any BIM delivery team on projects of any size and complexity.
We proactively collaborate with the Design, construction, client and Facilities Management teams to ensure our activities align with the projects BIM requirements, articulated through the EIR’s and BEP.
Our knowledge and experience gained in the delivery of complex 3D digital engineering projects have allowed us to transfer the key aspects to an aligned BIM process, where we work with project teams utilising the framework of PAS1192:2 to form the information management and delivery process.
Building Services are a significant portion of any construction project, therefore have a major contribution to the success of BIM, of paramount importance to the project’s BIM aspirations is to start with the end in mind, fully engaging with the client to understand the information needed to operate the asset, and ensure it is delivered in a format that can be used (and re-used), being seamlessly converted into the CAFM system. Soft landings is a key aspect of this approach, and FES offer open collaboration with the clients FM provider and promote early engagement, ensuring a smooth transition from CAPEX to OPEX
FES have invested in a range of BIM tools that provide us with flexibility in project BIM delivery, these include industry norm packages such as REVITmep, CADmep, & Navisworks.
Digital Engineering & Coordination
Mechanical and Electrical services are a major component of Construction Project Delivery. On a number of Projects, M&E services can constitute more than 50% of the total Project cost. Today, the sophistication and complexity of M&E services have made the job of M&E Co-ordination a very demanding one.
FES aim to drive waste out of the construction process by coordinating and engineering the building services elements virtually in the office environment before heading to site for a right first time installation, the key to this is early engagement, with integrated working and improved collaboration providing FES with greater control and mitigation of re-work.
FES achieve performance enhancement through detailed installation information for construction, programme benefits linked to the right first time approach & virtual models being engineered for pre-fabrication, along with detailed model electronic take-off’s assigning specific work package requirements. The virtual models support project completion documentation and validation activities.
FES appoint a lead coordinator for each project, who is the focal point of the digital engineering process for the duration of the project. They form the information conduit between the FES digital model, the design team and the construction activities with FES key work packages. The prime focus of their role is to collaborate with design teams and key interfaces to produce accurate and detailed construction information, resulting in a reduced project risk profile and a right first time installation.
The computer power employed on our digital engineering applications is 30 thousand times more powerful than the computers NASA used in their Lunar programme.
