FES supporting delivery of PV Install in East Dunbartonshire

April 6, 2021

An ambitious solar energy scheme is currently being planned for East Dunbartonshire.

Scottish Water Horizons (SWH) is planning to develop a solar PV array site at one of Scottish Waters most energy intense assets – Balmore Water Treatment Works (WTW).

FES Support Services Ltd are engaged within the project development alongside SWH, and, if greenlighted, the project will potentially start construction in Winter 2021.

The proposed solar installation will consist of 8,620 ground-mounted PV panels, generating an estimated 4GWh annually. It will also reduce yearly CO2 output by an estimated 1,100 tonnes.

Balmore is one of the largest water treatment plants in Scottish Water’s portfolio. It has the ability to treat water from Loch Katrine and Loch Lomond for supply to parts of East Dunbartonshire, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, the Falkirk and Grangemouth areas, and West Lothian.

EV Chargers and battery storage systems are being considered for installation, to support Scottish Waters transition of its 1,600-vehicle fleet of vans and tankers from fossil fuels to clean electricity.

Ecological surveys have already been carried out to ensure any impact on the local environment is kept to a minimum during construction.
