FES were appointed as Principal Contractor to reconfigure non-clinical spaces within Edinburgh Royal Infirmary into much need patient beds. The re-modelling works carried out by FES within the live hospital provided 58 x beds for renal and critical care.

The construction of these areas had to be undertaken without compromising the day to day operations of Edinburgh’s busiest hospital. The logistics of the project had to be planned with pinpoint accuracy as the only means of access to and from the construction site meant passing through the live hospital environment.  Every effort was made throughout the project to ensure that essential services remained uninterrupted and specific control measures were implemented to ensure that the cleanliness of the construction site and adjacent areas were kept to the standard to satisfy Edinburgh Royals Infection Control Team.

The building fabric works involved the complete strip out of all existing areas back to the building shell whilst maintaining operation of essential MEP services such as electrical sub distribution, fire alarms etc.

Other works included the installation of all fittings, fixtures and equipment required by the relevant Room Data Sheets. The complete works were fully compliant with the relevant SHTM’s, British Standards and Code of Practice.
