Cornton Vale Womens National Facility
Cornton Vale Womens National Facility
Cornton Vale Women’s National Facility and Young Offenders Institute provides secure accommodation for 118 inmates across multiple buildings, including an assessment centre and two houseblocks, as well as a central hub for rehabilitation activities. The central hub features facilities such as a library, medical and dental services, kitchens, and breakout spaces, all designed to support inmate rehabilitation.
FES Group was selected to design and install the mechanical, electrical, and IT services for the facility. This included utility systems, electrical and lighting infrastructure, mechanical ventilation, heating, cooling, fire safety, and data networks, all centralised through a purpose-built energy centre. The design and delivery process involved close collaboration with the client, prefabrication of components to improve quality and efficiency, and extensive commissioning to ensure all systems were fully operational.
The project presented unique challenges due to its location adjacent to an operational prison, requiring strict security clearances, careful logistical planning, and controlled communication protocols. We implemented a detailed Project Management Plan, coordinated deliveries, and maintained continuous contingency planning to manage site access while minimising disruption. Regular workshops and integrated communication with stakeholders ensured that the project met both operational and design requirements.
The completed facility delivers secure, modern accommodations, and progressive rehabilitation spaces, creating a supportive environment that promotes independence and life skills for inmates. The successful delivery of this facility reinforces FES Group’s expertise in delivering complex, sensitive construction projects.
